In Vitro and In Vivo Degradation Tests Materials used to construct medical devices (including polymers, ceramics, metals, and alloys) can form degradation products whenexposed to the biological environment and in the body theseproducts might behave differently to the bulk material. Where appropriate, in vitro degradation test shall be considered for investigating theoretically possible degradation processes. The need for in vivo studies shall be considered in light of results from in vitro studies.
